Over the past nine years Nissan has worked with the amazing folks at Habitat for Humanity by helping the non-profit organization fund and build beautiful homes for those in need.

Since that time, Nissan has donated over $10 million dollars to Habitat for Humanity, and they're not done yet, as the automaker just announced that they will be donating another $1.6 million to the organization.

Nissan began working with Habitat for Humanity just after the devastation of Hurricane Katrina in 2005. With a vehicle assembly plant in Canton, Mississippi, Nissan has strong ties to the southern states effected by the storm, so the automaker donated 50 Titan trucks to help in the rebuilding process. And not only that, Nissan employees from all over the country logged over 70,000 volunteer hours helping rebuild the Gulf Coast alongside Habitat.

"With Habitat, Nissan has a broader platform through which we can support the communities where our customers, dealers and employees live," said Nissan senior vice president Scott Becker. "And as Habitat volunteers, our employees can engage directly in addressing local needs for affordable housing by making personal commitments of their time and effort on Habitat home builds."

And as a U.S. EPA Energy Star Partner of the Year, Nissan will be donating (on top of their monetary donation) four Nissan NV commercial vehicles or Nissan Frontier trucks to various Habitat affiliates that commit to making their construction practices more sustainable. All Nissan-sponsored homes come equipped with many "green" features including programmable thermostats, high-performance windows and Energy Star appliances, so that these families will have the best homes for the brightest futures.

"We are grateful to Nissan for the continuous support through the years," said Jonathan Reckford, Habitat for Humanity International CEO. "Together, we have made a difference in the lives of so many families in need of affordable housing."
