The Nissan LEAF is a standout electric vehicle, ranking #2 in its class—an impressive feat in a highly competitive market. Already packed with great features, recent upgrades have further enhanced its popularity and performance.

Fermata Energy Bidirectional Charger

A notable new feature in the LEAF is the Fermata Energy Bidirectional Charger. This cutting-edge charger not only draws power from the grid but can also send electricity back, making the LEAF the first electric vehicle in the U.S. capable of two-way energy transfer.

The charger offers several advantages, including the ability to store energy for later use or help owners save money by returning unused electricity to the grid. It meets industry safety standards such as UL and CHAdeMO, and has been approved by Nissan for use with the LEAF.

The V2X Platform

In addition to the bidirectional charger, the LEAF now incorporates the V2X platform—an intelligent software system that works with the Fermata charger. This platform enhances the LEAF's power by up to 33%, while also lowering manufacturing costs and, in turn, consumer prices. The technology is being rolled out at Nissan dealerships and for fleet customers, and using it does not affect the vehicle's warranty. It may also be compatible with certain LEAF models dating back to 2013, depending on local regulations.
