Look out, Tesla! Nissan has developed a brand-new energy-storage device and they’re looking to take over the market with it, leaving Tesla’s Powerwall system out in the cold. The incoming unit, xStorage, is said to be more affordable than Tesla’s available energy-storage device and will make its initial debut in the UK before possibly heading to the U.S. in the near future.

Powered by 12 Nissan LEAF battery modules, xStorage works by storing energy during off-peak hours when it’s the cheapest and then using the energy to power the house during peak hours when energy costs are high. Owners will also have the ability to sell energy back to the grid and utilize a smartphone app to switch between energy sources whenever they choose to.

In addition to these benefits, xStorage is more affordable than Tesla’s 6.4 kWh Powerwall, which costs over $7,000 (including installation). With an overall cost of just $4,560 with installation, the 4.2 kWh xStorage device is a better option for buyers who want save money on energy in their homes.

Considering the benefits of Nissan’s xStorage device, we hope the battery pack eventually makes its way to the States. Be sure to visit our blog in the future for updates regarding the storage device and to discover other Nissan news!
