Nissan Future Lab has been dedicating its time to studying mobile trends and anticipating what transportation needs will look like in the future. And, to better accommodate drivers as megacities continue to develop across the world, the company has developed micromobility EV’s, known as Nissan New Mobility Concepts, which they showed off at the 2016 New York Auto Show.

According to Nissan Future Lab, studies show large cities are quickly growing into megacities and the evolution of transportation within these locations is going to be crucial to how they develop. As of now, we currently have 10 megacities throughout the world, and in 20 years, that number is expected to skyrocket to 30. To better assist drivers within these cities, Nissan created their micromobiltiy cars, which slot just between a full-size car and a motorcycle, allowing drivers to easily make their way across cities.

Just last year, Nissan began testing their micromobitlity cars in San Francisco, adding them to the city’s Scoot fleet, where locals could rent them for up to a full day. At just 7.6-feet in length, they proved to be very easy to maneuver around the city and were able to fit into parking spots with little effort. To verify just how compact the NNMCs are, Nissan even went as far as to park three of them within a single parking space when testing the vehicles during development.

At this time, the Nissan New Mobility Concepts are not available for purchase, but we hope to see them land on the market in the future. Keep an eye out for more news about the mini cars by subscribing to our RSS feed today.
